ARE YOU NURTURING YOUR CONSCIENCE?

We are living in an age of death of conscience! Men, everywhere are betraying the voice of their conscience, thereby breaking plain moral principles. Nudity, sexual perversions, child trafficking, kidnapping, exams malpractice, insurgency, corruption in public service, and moral laxity in sacred places are all plain expressions of dead conscience.

You don’t have a future without a good conscience. Your conscience is your God-ordained policeman to help you live in compliance with the laws of God. When you ignore the voice of your conscience, thereby breaking His obvious laws, He abandons you to a reprobate mind. The bible says: “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient”(Romans 1:28).

Your conscience is designed to operate like a Dashboard of a car in your body. It’s like driving your car and you suddenly observes a strange light coming up on your dashboard. The wise thing to do at that point is to wait and do a check. If you ignore this warning, you are definitely running the risk of damaging your car.

In the same manner, whenever you err, your conscience gives you a signal.  But when the voice of your conscience is ignored perpetually, it goes into hibernation and your life begins to slide into a state of malady. For instance, when you see young ladies going about half naked, it didn’t start that same day. She must have been ignoring the voice of her conscience perpetually until the conscience went dead.

Don’t allow your conscience to be infected with the deadly virus of social vices. Your conscience is the invisible software God has installed in your mind right from creation to help you run your life effectively. As such, it needs to be nurtured with an up-to-date spiritual anti-virus.  There is need to always run a diagnostic scan over your conscience perpetually so as to be able to stay on the track of wholeness.

What’s the state of your conscience? The Bible describes different kinds of conscience. Which one is your own? The first kind it mentioned is weak conscience: “But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ” (1 Cor. 8:12). A person with a weak conscience yields easily to the enticement of sins.

The Bible also talks about a defile conscience: “Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled” (Titus 1:15). A person with a defiled conscience lives in perversions of all kinds.

Still, there are those with dead conscience: “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron” (1 Tim. 4:2). People with a dead conscience wallows in sins without any feelings of guilt.

Interestingly, the word of God talks about good conscience: “Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck” (1 Tim.1:19). A good conscience is void of confusion and is very clear about the purpose and plan of God.

You can protect your conscience from contamination. The first step is to be spiritually minded by surrendering your old life to Jesus. Follow this up with a dire hard commitment to the study of the Word of God. The Bible says: “Let the word of God dwell in your heart with all wisdom…” (Col. 3:16). Don’t forget to also walk with people of integrity. Finally, feed your mind with healthy stuff in line with Philippians 4:8.
