He serves as the President and International Director of the Godly Brains Ministry, a multifaceted organization founded in 2008, dedicated to helping young people globally discover, develop, and deploy their leadership potential for global transformation. He has led young people to Germany, the USA, and four major universities in Ghana for leadership conferences. He was also a participant in the 6th Chaplaincy Global Leadership Conference held at the University of Sheffield, UK, in June 2022. Since 2013, he has been the convener of the annual Purpose, Potential, and Passion Conference (PPP), which attracts young people from various campuses across Nigeria. The maiden edition of PPP in the UK was held in 2023 in the city of Sheffield. A major arm of the Godly Brains Ministry, the Godly Brains Club, has helped young people on various campuses cultivate a healthy reading habit through a unified monthly reading program.

Gideon Akanbi is an ordained clergy of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and currently serves as the University Chaplain for Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria, which is Africa’s premier and largest Baptist university. In this role, he coordinates ten other chaplains to provide leadership and spiritual care for approximately 6,000 students on the main campus in Iwo and the Bowen University Teaching Hospital campus in Ogbomoso. This is in addition to his other administrative responsibilities as one of the principal officers of the university. Through this platform, he has visited more than ten chaplaincies at UK universities. He also played a key role in organizing the maiden edition of the Nigerian/UK Young Baptist Congress, which was held in Derbyshire, UK. This was a collaborative effort of the Godly Brains Ministry, the Youth/Student Ministries of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Bowen University, and the Yorkshire Baptist Association, UK.

Apart from his pastoral service as the pioneer resident pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Port Harcourt, he also served as the National Coordinator for the Baptist Student Fellowship of the Nigerian Baptist Convention from 2007 to 2012. In this capacity, he coordinated over 50 volunteer staff who managed the activities of the Baptist Student Fellowship across more than 150 campuses. This role gave him the opportunity to visit almost every university campus in Nigeria.

Education and Family Life

He is an alumnus of the University of Ilorin (B.Sc.), Bowen University, Iwo (PGDRS), Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso (M.Div.), Olabisi Onabanjo University (M.A.), Crowther Graduate Theological Seminary, Abeokuta (Ph.D.), and the Stephen Olford Center for Leadership Development in Memphis, USA. He has published six books and written several articles on various issues related to young people.

Gideon is happily married to Olubisi Temitayo, and their union is blessed with wonderful biological and spiritual children.
