Success Principle 1-Take 100% RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LIFE
“Life is like a combination lock; your job is to find the right numbers, in the right order, so you can have anything you want”
If you want to create the life of your dreams, then you are going to have to take 100% responsibility for your life as well. That means, giving up all your excuses, all your victim stories, all the reasons why you can’t and why you haven’t until now, and all the blaming of outside circumstances. You have to give them all up forever. Here is what George Washington Carver said: “Ninety-nine percent of all failures come from people who have habit of making excuses.” Here is what King Solomon also said in Ecclesiastes 11:4: “Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap”
So, one simple formula to put to mind to make this idea of taking 100% responsibility sink deep down in your heart is this: Event (E) plus Response (R) equals Outcome (O). Pls Take this formula to heart; it will help you a great deal.
The basic idea behind this formula is that every outcome you experience in life (whether it is success or failure, wealth or poverty, health or illness, intimacy or estrangement, joy or frustration) is all the results of how you have responded to an earlier event or events in your life.
Jack Canfield counsels as follows: If you don’t like the outcomes you are currently getting, there are just two basic choices you can make:
- You can blame the event (E) for your lack of results (O) or
- You can instead simply change your responses (R) to the events (E) – that is, the way things are currently– until you get the outcomes (O) you want.
This means you can change your thinking, change your communication, change the pictures you hold in your head and you can change your behaviors (that is, the things you do). That is all you really have any control over. This is exactly what Paul counsels the Romans believers: “Do not be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:1)
Unfortunately, most of us are so run by our habits that we never change our behavior. We get stuck in our conditioned responses. We are a bundle of conditioned reflexes that operate outside of our control. You have to regain control of your thoughts, your images, your dreams and daydreams, and your behavior. Everything you think, say, and do need to become intentional and aligned with your purpose, your values, and your goals.
On the final note, please take these two statements seriously:
- If you don’t like your outcomes, change your responses and that
- Everything you experience today is the result of choices you have made in the past.
