Success Principle 3 – DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT

“The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”

Once you have decided why you are here on earth, you have to decide what you want to do, be, and have. What do you want to accomplish? What do you want to experience? And what possession do you want to acquire? In the journey from where you are to where you want to be, you have to decide where you want to be. In other words, what does success look like to you?

One of the main reasons why most people don’t get what they want is they haven’t decided what they want. They haven’t defined their desires in clear and compelling details. Remember what David said in Psalm 20:4: “May God give you according to your heart desire and make all your plans succeed.” So, according to this bible verse, writing down your goals and plans in concrete terms is very crucial to success.

The process of getting from where you are to where you want to be is like using the navigational system with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology in a newer-model car. For system to work, it simply needs to know where you are and where you want to go. The navigation system figures out where you are by the use of an onboard computer that receives signals from three satellites and calculates your exact position. When you type in your destination, the navigational system plots a perfect course for you. All you have to do is follow the instructions.

Success in life works the same way. All you have to do is decide where you want to go by clarifying your vision, lock in the destination through prayer, goal-setting, affirmation, and visualization, and start moving in the right direction. Your inner GPS will keep unfolding your route as you continue to move forward. May I tell you the good news that this inner GPS is the Holy Spirit that God has endowed you with if you are his child.

In other words, once you clarify and stay focused on your vision, the exact steps will keep appearing along the way. Once you are clear about what you want and keep your mind constantly focused on it, the how will keep showing up – sometimes constantly just when you need it and not a moment earlier.

Don’t let anyone talk you out of your vision. There are people who will try to talk you out of your vision. They will tell you that you are crazy and that it can’t be done. There will be those who will laugh at you and try to bring you down to their level. Don’t listen to them; these are dream-stealers.

Now, listen to this story about Monry Roberts.

When Monry was in high school, his teacher gave the class the assignment to write about what they wanted to do when they grew up. Monry wrote that he wanted to own his own 200-acre ranch and raise Thoroughbreed racehorses. His teacher gave him an F and explained that the grade reflected that he deemed his dream unrealistic. The teacher figured out that no boy who was living in a camper on the back of a pickup truck would ever be able to amass enough money to buy a ranch, purchase breeding stock, and pay the necessary salaries for ranch workers. When the offered Monry the chance of rewriting his paper for a higher grade, Monry told him, “You keep the F, I’m keeping my dream.”

Today Monry’s 154-arce flag is up on his Farms in Solvang, California, raises Thoroughbred racehorses and trains hundred of horse trainers in a more humane way to “join up” with and train horses.

Now, what exactly do you want in life? Are you on the path of destiny or are you just meandering through life?
